Aguarazu
Permaculture retreat center
Situated in the Serra da Mantiqueira Mountains of Southern Brazil, surrounded by Atlantic forests, flora, fauna, rivers and waterfalls, you will find the Aguarazu Xamanic Spa, a Permaculture Retreat Center in Visconde de Mauá, RJ.
The idea of a Shamanic SPA on a Permaculture farm arises from the need to nurture the body, mind and Spirit in unity with the Territory through ancient Earth practices, such as Indigenous Plant Medicine Ceremonies, Temazcal, Cacau Ceremony, Fire Rituals, Song and Dance Circles, Permaculture practices, Holistic Therapies, SPA treatments with natural herbs and healthy eating and lifestyles.
The Permaculture Retreat Center is the interaction between the Territory, ourselves and others in a sustainable and stimulating environment. We open our farm on several occasions throughout the year to welcome guests to share these Eco-Spiritual practices through our seasonal shamanic retreats and women's retreats. We also host plant medicine retreats with indigenous leaders who share their traditions and ancient knowledge through ceremonies to further deepen our experiences of self-discovery and our connection to the divine.
Isabel Christina Vallejo is an American-born woman of Colombian descent living in Brazil for over twenty years. She has a Bachelor's from NYU in Latin-American studies. In Brazil, she is trained as a Shamanic Family Constellation Therapist. During her years in South America she has studied with various Indigenous communities, learning ancient earth practices, specializing in the field of Sacred Plant Medicines and Sacred Sweat lodges. Her journey as guardian and creator of Aguarazu Xamanic SPA has granted her experience as a Ceremonialist, guiding sacred circles and rituals such as Temazkal, Cacau Ceremonies, Song Circles and Sacred Feminine Circles. Living immersed in nature on a farm has gifted her the skills as an agroecological farmer, Permaculturist, and Agroforest advocate. In recent years, she has been involved in Integration Mentoring and providing Mentorship for facilitators of Sacred Circles.
She is a natural-born teacher who never stops learning and developing her skills. Her familiarity with the North American and South American culture, as well as her fluency in three languages, (English, Spanish and Portuguese), make her an excellent guide for foreigners embarking on an adventure of self-discovery.
Augustin Jaimes is born in Colombia and has lived in Brazil for over 20 years. From a young age he has traveled through South America exploring the arts and culture of different communities, taking a special interest in indigenous cultures. Along his path, he discovered holistic therapies and specialized in massage therapy and Shamanic earth practices, such as Temazkal and guardianship to Plant Medicine Ceremonies. When the couple's children arrive, Agustin relives his childhood memories and dedicates himself once again to the practice of agriculture and bio-construction as a way of reclaiming his ancestry. Providing sustainable living conditions and caring for the Earth is his legacy to his children, the community , and the generations to come. He also practices Permaculture, Agroforestry, and Landscape Art Sculpting. His greatest art and bio-construction project is the designing and building of Aguarazu's Ceremonial space, La Maloka.
Agustin is also known for his abilities as a Fire Guardian in our rituals and walks the Red Path through his identification as a Sundancer and Vision Quest seeker.
Xamanism
Over the past 8 years, we have opened our doors and hearts to receive different spiritual leaders of Native American descent to share their wisdom and ceremonies. All these encounters lead us to an understanding and appreciation of our role in the interconnective web of life on this planet. The awakening of consciousness and habits that will lead to a more meaningful and sustainable journey through our time here on Earth.
《 Indigenous Plant Medicine Retreats 》
The experiences with the indigenous communities include the use of traditional plant medicines and rituals. These rituals specifically set the stage for an immense awakening of consciousness and transformational insights. Through the sharing of experiences and knowledge between westerners and the indigenous communities, we hope to open spaces not just for spiritual insights but for conversations about conservation and environmental awareness as well as the creation of projects that can help conserve our forests, the well-being of traditional communities and sustainable living for all living creatures on earth.
Our retreats with the indigenous communities include the use of traditional plant medicines such as Ayahuasca, Rape, Sananga, Wachuma, Jurema and Tobacco. The night journey around the fire, the rattles, drums, songs and dance, unlock ancestral codes that connect us with the Divine in ourselves, others, and nature. One night of ceremony can change your worldview forever. An unforgettable encounter with the mystery of creation that brings insights into a more purposeful and harmonious lifestyle. If this type of experience of deep-rooted work with plant medicine and Indigenous communities interests you, check out the dates and full details of upcoming retreats with Indigenous leaders.
《 Shamanic Retreats 》
We also have ongoing seasonal Shamanic Retreats which do not include Sacred Plant Medicine, but come packed with an array of earth practices that create the opportunity for life-changing experiences and the contemplation of the true self. Check out our "Alchemy of the Four Elements" Retreat and the "Four Phases of the Medicine Women" Retreat. Treat yourself to a week of Shamanic SPA for the Body, Mind and Soul.
These retreats include self-care, holistic therapy, Temazkal, Cacau ceremonies, Fire ceremonies, Song and dance circles, among other practices that encourage us to consecrate the elements. It is a great opportunity to immerse yourself in nature and create transformational experiences within yourself and create deep bonds with like-minded individuals and the Mother Earth.
permaculture
Here on the land, Shamanism and Permaculture go hand in hand. They both honor self as an intricate part of the whole, creating practices that bring the human being to co-create a healthy, sustainable reality for himself, the community and the planet. Through observation and exchange with nature, the elements and the cycles, we learn to organize our time and space to walk the path of el “Buen Viver”, the “Good Living.”
La Milpa
La Milpa is a 14-year-old agroecological vegetable garden and agroforest. Two years ago, this experimental space opened its doors to receive visitors and schools to partake in learning experiences. In the garden is where we learn the most. If we are able to recognize the teachings of Mother Earth’s manifestation through her cycles, love and abundance we can perceive that same magic within ourselves. Taking the teachings a step further and interacting with Mother Earth more profoundly through the process of planting forest, food or medicine connects us with the fountain of Creation and manifestation within ourselves and in our lives. For these reasons, activities in “La Milpa" are frequent and necessary. They create moments of contemplative meditation, physical contact with the earth, opportunities to create community as well as all the medicines, vegetables and herbs that feed our souls and bodies.
Our Experimental Agroecological Garden, La Milpa is open to visitors! If you would like to have a hands-on experience in the garden and finish with a delicious lunch prepared with freshly picked produce from the site, this might be the experience for you.
All our experiences start off with a tour of the Permaculture farm, the garden and agroforest areas, as well as the cultivated fields. The tour is followed by the learning experience that the group has chosen and ends with a delicious vegetarian meal prepared with ingredients from the garden and ancestral recipes related to the land. If you are interested in bringing a group to our Garden, please contact us for available dates and options. Access our Instagram to accompany all our environmental projects.

Aguarazu Xamanic SPA Retreat center could not run as smoothly without the generous support of the many volunteers that have shared their time and service with us.
Through our volunteer program we have met like-minded individuals from all over the world willing to experience a permaculture farm experience and partake in earth practices together with our spiritual community. As we open our farm to those who want to deepen their experiences with this type of lifestyle, we learn from them, and they learn from us. Volunteering experiences are run throughout the year, requiring a two-week minimum stay. Volunteers help with all types of tasks on the farm, such as planting, cultivating, preparing food, bio constructing and helping with social media. They also partake in our monthly activities such as Temazkal, fire circles, moon circles, singing circles, cacau ceremony and much more.
